A Shared Workspace Etiquette - 7 Simple Ways to Be Considerate in a Shared Workspace

A shared working space, like shared offices and coworking spaces, can support a collaborative environment and give you a great motivational boost. Or it can be a daily nightmare and irritation. A little mindfulness goes a long way to ensure everyone—including you—has a pleasant and productive day.

Siin on seitse lihtsat ühiskontori käitumisreeglit mille järgimine aitab muuta igapäevase koos töötamise sujuvamaks:

1. Be Mindful About Noice

Open workspaces thrive on energy and communication. For example, for introverts, constant noise in a shared office can become mentally straining. Use headphones for calls and virtual meetings, and if you need to collaborate, try to find a meeting room or a quieter corner.

2. Mind Personal Boundaries

Not everyone can or wants to chat at all times. When someone is wearing headphones, leave them alone. The same goes for intensive typing—they are in the flow, and it is not personal (probably).

3. Keep it tidy, your mom doesn't work here

Don't leave empty coffee cups all around. Tidy up surfaces after leaving your workspace, kitchen or bathroom.

4. Be Scent-Mindful

Strong perfumes, food scents (think fish), or even overpowering hygiene products can disturb others. Be mindful of personal hygiene. Body odours in close quarters can be really unpleasant. Use neutral scents, don't forget deodorant, and take meals to designated eating areas, such as our comfortable kitchen space.

5. Jagatud resursid on kõigile kasutamiseks

Shared resources, such as meeting rooms, printers, and kitchen appliances, should be used thoughtfully. Avoid monopolising conference rooms, phone areas, and meeting spaces. If there is a booking system, stick to the timeframe.

6. Communication Is Key

If something bothers you, address it kindly and directly or let the workspace management handle it. Clear communication helps avoid unnecessary tension.

7. Be Inclusive and Kind

A smile, a friendly greeting, or a shared coffee break helps build a positive and welcoming community. Being considerate goes beyond rules; it's about fostering a supportive atmosphere.

These simple guidelines help you create a workspace where everyone can work and thrive together—a place where people feel comfortable. A little kindness and consideration go a long way.
